The lighthouse signifies clarity and transparency.
One of three rendered illustrations for Rainbow, a company that helps the advertising industry give its customers a better ad experience (now Prism). They were made for online marketing, and the brief that mattered was vibrant colour.
The interesting constraint is that the light had to be a shape. A real lighthouse beam is a gradient, and a gradient on a saturated flat ground turns to mud at small sizes and disappears entirely in a feed. So the beam is two hard yellow wedges, with edges, cut straight across the backdrop, which is not how light works and is exactly how a printed lighthouse works. The everything-is-paper treatment follows from that: matte surfaces, one shadow, and a hole in the ground instead of a cast shadow.
